This is the fourth in a series of genealogical mysteries set in a small town in North Carolina. The books are narrated by Sophreena, half of a partnership which offers full-service genealogy and family history, including scrapbooks and archival preservation as well as classic genealogical research (a business plan I'd steal if I were a bit younger!)In Dead in a Flash, Sophreena and her partner Esme have one of the biggest jobs of their career -- producing scrapbooks and family history for a trib [...]

Around the Year in 52 Books 2017 Reading Challenge. A mystery.Sophreena and Esme have been working on a genealogy study for a Senator and his sister. The scrapbooks will be unveiled at his birthday party. They have also been asked to check out the mysterious death/disappearance of their brother. When they were young, their house burned to the ground and their brother died in the fire. However, their parents never believed this. They thought the baby had been kidnapped and the fire started to cov [...]

Very enjoyable genealogical mystery! The story was very compelling—a tragedy from the past and how it all concluded with a marvelous twist—very engaging! It had a well-written and developed storyline. I find the two main characters, Esme and Sophreena, appealing and likable. If I had any issues, there were two minor ones: the research the genealogists did came across as a little unrealistic. There wasn’t really much reference to research at libraries or societies for things like vital recor [...]

This Family History series is one I've enjoyed from the very beginning (Paging the Dead). Sophreena and Esme are wonderful characters who really give a good idea of what genealogy is all about. In this fourth installment, they get to experience a bit of the high life by working for wealthy clients, but those "extra duties as assigned" dig up a lot of worms. If you don't think family history can contain deep, dark secrets, think again. All you have to do is watch an episode or two of Finding Your [...]

An interesting and well-written mystery, in which the author cleverly weaves together incidents from genealogical research and current events. This is the fourth book in the series, and I really like the way the characters and their relationships are evolving and progressing as the series continues.

For the fourth book in the Family History Mystery series, two simultaneous undertakings by genealogists double the secrets and suspects. Brynn Bonner cleverly interweaves looking into past lives with current events, and the result is an enthralling story packed with unknowns. I became caught up in the many often shocking revelations that came to light throughout the story, as each new disclosure had my mind frantically trying to work out what these new facts meant. But just when I thought my ded [...]

Esme and Sophreena are hired to dig up facts about a tragedy in the life of a retiring United States Senator. At the same time, the senator's close friend hires them to do a family tree project as a wedding present for her brother. When the senator's biographer, who has been a resource person for them, is found dead, the problems become even more complex.

Another fine visit with Sophreena and Ezme. I think the conclusion is obvious, but the journey was fun and interesting. I wonder: Why was this issue in mass market instead of trade as the previous books?
